Testimony:
"Being a student member for me has meant opportunity. After joining the RCA in 2002, I spent two years trying to figure what was available for students. I finally had the opportunity to attend the RCA Networking Reception at the 2004 IFT meeting. There, I was introduced to Steve XXX, the RCA president at the time. When I asked him why the RCA had no organized student group, he said, ”It’s because you haven’t created one yet.” He then introduced me to a few members of the Education Committee and to Tim Kline with Kellen Company who helped get everything going. This is where I learned, that in the RCA, if you want to see something, get involved and make it happen.
I have been an active member of the Student Subcommittee for the past 8 years. In this short time, we have created numerous opportunities for student to get involved in and make the RCA their organization as well. With poster competitions, Culinology competitions, and the newly developed Student Leadership Team as well as all the other committees, there are unlimited opportunities for someone to get involved. I have had the pleasure of serving on the Student Sub/Advisory Committee, Marketing Committee, Education Committee, Annual Conference Planning Committee, and Membership Committee as well as numerous subcommittees within these groups.
The RCA has given me the opportunity to network and interact with many of the most successful people in our field. Many of which have served as a personal, educational, and/or professional mentor. The RCA has given me the chance to get involved, grow, and strengthen an idea (Culinology) that I truly believe in. The RCA has helped me grow personally by allowing me to get involved and improve my leadership skills. The RCA has helped validate my educational and work experience through my CRC certification."
